Civitella Tuscan Cottage
The Tuscan landscape is impressive all over the place, nevertheless its particular charm can be enjoyed in the somewhat less crowded areas, as for example in the Val di Chiana, the Chiana Valley.
Here is situated this historic house, the basements of which go back to an old watch tower from the 14th century or even before. Here, from a strategic position, the whole valley could be surveyed.

On the opposite hill the view rests on the picturesque outline of the medevial town of Civitavella in Val di Chiana.
The owner's private property covers some 43 hectars, most of which original woods and a well cultivated olive grove. No wonder there is a production of biologically controlled cultivation. This will allow you to buy the bio-products right away at the owner's nearby farm.
The house itself has also retained a touch of originality; although comfortable with today's tecnical outfit it will leave you with some idea about its life in former times.

Cosy the large living room with the open fire place in its centre; the open kitchen with its modern equipment is nicely integrated.
The bedrooms on the upper floor are of natural charm. The original beds show local style, as well as the chest of drawers and armoires – antiques of the less wealthy people (arte povera).
Amidst untouched nature the truly charming garden with its blooming bushes and herbs looks like an oasis.
There is a dining place outside, covered by a pergola.
A real dream is the pool, you slowly walk down the steps – and then you swim towards „endlessness“................

Tuscan Cottage Civitella, built in the first place from a medieval watch tower. Restored in 2004 taking into account Tuscan style and tradition including regional materials:, wooden beamed ceilings in the upper floor and the typical wooden floor. Downstairs the original barrel vault so typical for storage rooms and stables and the original old cotto floors. An outdoor stone staircase leads up to the former living area.
The bedrooms include wardrobes or commodes; the bath-rooms are equipped ordinarily and functionally.

You are here in the Chianti Aretini Area. On foot you can take interesting walks in the surrounding hills where it is often easy to see wild animals.
For those who want to enjoy an extraordinary view over the Val di Chiana, you can reach the village of Civitella which is about 1.5 km from the house. It’s a village mostly intact with the remains of a castle of Lombard origin. Also in Civitella are two restaurants, two bars, a butcher and grocer and ice cream parlor. There are also various restaurants in the area where you can taste the typical Tuscan cuisine, from simple to the most innovative; in both cases the common denominator is the use of excellent local ingredients.
Arezzo is still today one of the charming old Tuscan cities, with elegant shops at its medieval city centre. Well prepared for tourism, nevertheless it is the Arretini who shape the atmosphere of the city; they proudly sit in front of the bars or under the famous Vasari arcades having their café or aperitivo.
Arezzo is the city of goldsmiths and antique deals; every first weekend of the month the probably biggest antique market in Tuscany takes place on the Piazza Grande and the famous arcasdes. Dealers and clients come from everywhere. So why make a long trip if you could rent your holiday villa so close to the event.
Maybe you should also consider to visit the pitoresque old village of Anghiari not far from Arezzo.
